While his first job was playing guitar in the underground with his band, Nikita is now composing something different: our platform. Thanks to his talent for innovation and his lifelong motto “Never stop; always get what you want,” he does indeed always get what he wants. As our Software Engineer, this means securing the protection of our users and ensuring a great user experience.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I never actually thought about being a software developer, but I always wanted to run my own company and become a successful entrepreneur.

What was the last thing you bought/sold on eBay Kleinanzeigen?

I bought an electric heater, so now eBay Kleinanzeigen warms both my heart and my apartment <3

Why did you decide to come and work for eBay Kleinanzeigen?

A few years ago, I attended a careers fair in Berlin where eBay Kleinanzeigen had a booth. I immediately liked the company because of its spirit, ideology and culture. I also remember how impressed I was when I first visited our lovely campus in Dreilinden during my on-site interview. I saw happy people who looked like they truly enjoyed being a part of eBay Kleinanzeigen. That’s when my decision was final!

We constantly strive to create a better platform for our users. As we experienced some heavy spamming on eBay Kleinanzeigen last year, you used your slack time for a special project. What was it and how does it benefit our users?

It’s an AI system that detects nudity in pictures and automatically blocks the ad containing the images. This solution gives our users a better experience on the platform and helps prevent them from seeing not suitable for work content (NSFW). I can’t publicize the implementation details since spammers might read this interview :)

What would you like to tackle next?

My dream for the foreseeable future is to adopt more machine learning technology to protect our users from unwanted content and evil spammers.
