Legal Counsel Jo-Anna always reads the last chapter of a new book first because for her preparation is key. As a lawyer she had the chance to gain insights into a variety of legal work and learned to look at every problem from multiple perspectives. Although she might be scared of butterflies, Jo-Anna is certainly never afraid to take on a new challenge.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
In my very early years, I wanted to be a princess. Then I wanted to be a dentist. Unfortunately, I realized that I was not that talented in science, so I ended up becoming a lawyer. But I’m very happy about that, I think the job is a good fit for me.
What was the last thing you bought/sold on eBay Kleinanzeigen?
The last thing I bought on eBay Kleinanzeigen was a saddle girth for my horse. The last thing I sold was an iPhone case.
As a lawyer you can either choose a career in a law firm or a company. Why did you decide to come work for eBay Kleinanzeigen?
Before I started working for eBay Kleinanzeigen, I had the chance to get some insights into some areas of “traditional” legal work. I worked in court, at the public prosecutor’s office and in a traditional law firm. That was very exciting, but I was more interested in working for an international company. The eBay Classifieds Group with its numerous international brandings is a global player unlike almost any other. The experience you can gain at this kind of company is absolutely priceless, so I decided to apply for a three-month traineeship in 2016. I liked it so much that I didn’t want to leave. I was happy that I could stay.
What do you love about your job?
It’s definitely getting to work with the different teams. Through my job as Legal Counsel, I have insight into almost all areas and teams, and I get to work with many different people and characters, even across national borders. The job is very varied, and I often have to deal with unfamiliar legal matters. Not one day is like the other. I really enjoy being part of an international team and solving a variety of legal problems together with my colleagues.
How has working from home changed both your work and personal life?
The boundaries between work and personal life have become very blurred. You live where you work, you work where you live. After a brief euphoria about not having to drive to work, being able to sleep longer and spending all the time I could with my dog, I realized that this situation also brings a lot of challenges, especially for your work life. Many things that used to be taken for granted now need to be carefully planned and maintained, such as how we communicate or even simple things like taking a short break. What has definitely changed is that there is much less interpersonal interaction and less fun (and we used to have a lot of that). I really miss my lovely colleagues.
